What To Expect During Your Retina Examination?
- Registration process: With your arrival, you will be asked to show some form of ID and an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) number will be generated by the receptionist.
- Refraction: You will undergo a detail refraction evaluation including your visual acuity assessment, intraocular pressure, glass prescription will be generated if needed. Additionally, color vision and contrast sensitivity testing will also be done
- Slit Lamp Evaluation: A basic evaluation of your eyes will be done on slit lamp by our doctor.
- Dilatation: if needed dilated eye examination will be done to see the lens status and detailed retina examination. Dilating is a procedure where we put eye drops in your eyes after which the pupil will dilate. It takes around 15-30 minutes for the effect to come and the effect of drops will last for 2-3 hours. After dilatation, mild blurry vision along with glaring/ photophobia in sunlight is common till the effect of drops persist.
- Dilated Eye Examination: After full dilatation, the doctor will examine your eyes to see the lens, vitreous, retina and optic nerve. You may be asked to lie down on your back for a detailed retina examination if needed.
