Common OPD Procedures

Common OPD Procedures

When a patient visits our clinic, they are first required to undergo specific standard OPD procedures. It is one kind of regular testing of the patient’s eye and vision so that it becomes easier to find the impairments and start their diagnosis and treatment as early as possible.

Diagnostic test

  • Visual Acuity Assessment : A visual acuity test is done to check the ability of the eyes to see the details in objects, shapes and things around. The visual acuity allows a person to differentiate between various objects. It is one of the factors out of many other factors undecided in the overall vision of the human eye.
  • Intraocular Pressure : Intraocular Pressure is a procedure where a puff of air is used to measure the pressure of the eye. IOP measurement helps to check the health of the optic nerve.
  • Color Vision Testing : This test is conducted to evaluate the ability of your eyes to differentiate between different colours. If someone cannot say the difference, they are said to have poor colour vision or colour blindness. However, if you can see some shades of grey, then you are not completely colour blind.
  • Contrast Sensitivity Testing : The contrast sensitivity test is conducted to measure the eyes' ability in distinguishing finer to finest increments of contrast. To test whether your eye can differentiate between light and dark. The patient is asked to recognize small to smaller letters on the eye chart.
  • Fundus Photography :The fundus photography procedure is painless and gets completed in a minute or two. In this method, the fundus is photographed with special eye cameras via the dilated pupil. Then it provides a color picture of the backside of your eye.
  • Optical Coherence Tomography ( OCT) : Optical coherence tomography is an imaging test. In this procedure, we use light waves to take cross-section pictures of the retina. One can see each of the retina's distinctive layers through this test. OCT allows us to know and evaluate the thickness of the retina.
  • Visula Field Testing : Visual field testing is done to see the field of vision in all quadrants of eye.

Procedures

  • Laser For Retinal Diseases :In retinal diseases like Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vein Occlusion or Peripheral Retinal degeneration, laser therapy is done to burn the part of retina which has become pathological. It is an OPD procedure and takes around 10-15 minutes per eye depending upon the area involved.
  • Pneumatic Retinopexy :is a procedure where a gas bubble is injected in the vitreous cavity in cases of retinal detachment (superior), displacement of subretinal hemorrhage away from the macula.
  • Anterior Chamber Tap / Vitreous Tap :Here a small amount of fluid is taken either from anterior chamber or vitreous cavity to rule out certain infective, inflammatory or malignant diseases of eye.
