What is Macular Hole?
When there is a hole formation in the central of your macula, it is called Macular Hole. The cause for the hole formation is mainly aging. As aging occurs, the vitreous liquefies and separates from retina. In some cases, during this separation, it pulls away the macula and creates a hole. This also has been seen in cases of trauma. Patients with macular hole experience seeing broken or wavy images or lines and sometimes profound central vision loss. This disease is generally treated by retinal surgery.
